Throughout its history, the Shrine has been guided by devoted Rectors who have faithfully served its spiritual mission and community. The following is a list of those who have led the Shrine with dedication, helping shape its legacy of faith and devotion.
1973–2003

Entrusted by Archbishop Coleman Carroll with the construction of the Ermita de la Caridad, Monsignor Augistín Román served as its Rector from 1973 until his retirement in 2003.
2003–2010
1954
The Most Reverend Monsignor Oscar Castaneda served as Rector of the Shrine from 2003 to 2010.
2010-2016
1954
The Reverend Juan Rumin Dominguez served as the Shrine’s Rector from 2010 to 2016.
2016-2022
1950-2026
The Reverend Fernando Eduardo Hería served as the Shrine’s Rector from 2016 to 2022.
2022-Present

Father Espino was named the fifth Rector of the National Shrine Ermita de la Caridad on February 1st, 2022 by His Excellency Archbishop Thomas Wenski. He also currently serves as archdiocesan liaison with Caritas Cuba.
